INFRASTRUCTURE TRANSPORTATION/UTILITIES

The City of Fountain embodies the small town quality of life with full-access convenience of a large city infrastructure system. This includes: interstates, highways, railways, an airport hub, and a city-owned Utility Enterprise (water and electric).

I-25 is the front-range interstate that runs north to Wyoming and south to New Mexico. HWY 50 to the south and HWY 70 to the north, serve as the main east/west connections to neighboring Southwest and Midwest states.

Significant roadway improvements have taken place in the last decade, to include:

2022/2023, S. Powers Boulevard transportation study (CDOT, El Paso County, and CoF)

2020,
Venetucci Boulevard connection between S. Academy Blvd and B-Street within South Academy Highlands development area.

2019, Duckwood Road connection between HWY US85 and Markshuffle Road within Mesa Ridge/INFILL development area.

2017- present, Illinois Avenue connection with new signaled intersection at HWY US85 within historic Olde Town district. (part of Quiet Zone policy with railroads)

2014
, the Colorado Springs hearty bypass of HWY 21/ Powers Boulevard w
as completed and connects at x132 of I-25 in Fountain, CO/ Fort Carson's Gate 20. The Springs bypass was an initiative funded by the Federal Transportation Agency to support Fort Carson Military Installation and regional growth of City of Fountain and Colorado Springs.

Because of Fountain’s bandwidth of infrastructure connectivity, businesses naturally look to locate in Fountain within the industries of Manufacturing distribution, Transportation and Logistics freight and/or agencies of Fleet Serviceability.

RAILWAY SERVICES:
Railways
Fountain is unique when it comes to railways, Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and Union Pacific (UP), as it is the only secondary location along the front-range to offer dual-railway serviceability.

Dual rail service is derived by with the Ray D. Nixon Power Plant switch loop infrastructure owned by Colorado Springs Utilities.
