HOME SAFE
The Fountain Police Department “Home Safe” program is designed to help assist officers in the event an adult or child with a cognitive impairment goes missing.
Children and adults with cognitive impairment have a tendency to wander or run away from the supervision of their families or caregivers. Many are not completely aware of their surroundings, don’t have a good understanding of safety, and have an increased risk of becoming lost. All of these situations can quickly turn into a life or death situation.
The Fountain Police Department has created a packet consisting of information about the participant, to include: diagnosis or disability, communication method, emergency contacts and any other special considerations officers should be aware of. We want to be able to assist children and adults who are diagnosed with Autism, Down Syndrome, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Severe Developmental Disorders and any others who have an impairment to cognitive functioning return home safe if they are reported missing.
The Home Safe Packets are available at the Fountain Police Department, via the link below, and the School Resource Officers will have them available at every school within the city.
