Fire Inspections
The City of Fountain Fire Department is currently using the International Fire Code 2015 with amendments, that can be found within the Ordinance located on the left side of this page under Fountain Fire Code Ordinance. The City of Fountain Fire Department, Fire Prevention Division stays current with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department current adopted building codes. All International Code Council codes require amendments to adopt a standard code, amendments are created to benefit an organization and jurisdiction. The process to adopt a code is extensive, takes months of preparation and planning with business owners, stake-holders meetings, Q & A meetings, and a three (3) reading of an Ordinance adoption to the City Council.
Business Fire Inspections
Businesses located within the City of Fountain are required to maintain a business license with the city, and are required to have a fire inspection from personnel from the Fire Prevention Division.
Fire Inspections are at random times when the business is in normal operations. Some businesses may require a scheduled inspection to accommodate business hours outside of a Monday through Friday 0900-1700 schedule.
The Fire Marshal is required to maintain a Fire Inspector III/Plans Examiner certification with the State of Colorado All State and/or Federally funded business and public schools may contact the office of the Fire Marshal to schedule required inspections, at 719-393-6890.
Fire Investigations
The City of Fountain Fire Department is responsible to investigate all fires within the city limits. The Fire Chief and/or the Fire Marshal are on call 24 hours a day, every day. The Fire Marshal is responsible in maintaining a certification of a Fire Investigator with an accrediting association (International Association of Arson Investigators, National Association of Fire Investigators, etc.)
Fire investigation reports are available a minimum of 2 weeks after an incident.

16-2.5-109. Fire arson investigator –A fire arson investigator authorized by a unit of local government is a peace officer while engaged in the performance of his or her duties whose authority shall be limited to the enforcement of arson and related laws and who may be certified by the P.O.S.T. board.
Fire Prevention
Fire prevention week is every year on the second week of October, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire https://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education/Staying-safe/Preparedness/Fire-Prevention-Week. City of Fountain Fire Department travel to every elementary school in city limits during this week and perform fire prevention education.
