Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA) or the requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

The American Heart Association does not mandate a minimum age requirement for learning CPR. The ability to perform CPR is based more on body strength than age. In order to obtain CPR certification, participants will need to be able to get on the floor and be able to demonstrate effective chest compressions and to give effective breaths on the manikins.

Hands on skills testing will take place throughout the course with opportunities to practice and improve skills. There is NOT a written test. Participants must be in attendance for the entire course and complete the skills testing in order to receive a passing score and be issued an eCard from the American Heart Association, which is good for two years.

The Heartsaver CPR/First Aid course is NOT for health care providers or prehospital professionals. These types of professionals usually need to complete a Basic Life Support class.
